You've got to see it to believe it!
The Trained Alexandrines have been performing faithfully for 15 years here at Parrots In Paradise, and prior to that we traveled all over for 5 years.
They have happily worked for many bus groups and visitors over the years. In that time we used positive reinforcement, rewarding them with praise and treats after a trick. Our parrots were never punished when they did not perform.
Knowing the birds are having a ball is great fun for the young and old. The bird's ability to solve puzzles and evidence of cognitive thought has to be seen to be believed.
But time has taken it's toll on not only the parrots but also on the humans.
So it was decided to do one final show for a professional vidographer in order to capture all of the show in spite of our losing one of our parrot team to a stroke and another to cataracts.
The Videographer was able to cobble in the missing performers tricks thanks to old videos.
So now when you visit you get the show in it's entirety. Nothing is missed.
We can do nothing about Lena who was taken by the stroke. But Kelele, who has cataracts will, once he is fully blind, will be given an eye operation, because this bird gave faithfully of himself for 20 years, and he will likely live at least the same again, so he deserves to be able to see in that time. So we are saving to get the $4000 for his operation.

Our Sanctuary has had an upgrade
Anytime Bird Show:
We have gone to great expense to get a professional videographer to film the full show.
You can now watch the show whilst relaxing and enjoying the very best Devonshire tea on the Sunshine Coast.
Until now, if you wanted to see the birds perform live, you had together gather a group of 10 or more people or join an existing booking.
NOW, because it has become a professional video, anyone and everyone can come in and see the show, as many times as they like.
On your way down to see the show and the tea area you can see "Hall of Fame" made up of all the props that were used in the live performance.
Sanctuary Guides:
And we now offer walkabout hand- held Audio Guides.
If you prefer you can have a printed copy of the audio version and you can make your own way around our feathered residents homes. (Children must be supervised)
Larger free flight area:
The Freedom Flight area has been extended and you will be able to feed and enjoy the cheeky company of the birds landing on you for their treats. We do ask that studs and delicate jewellery not be worn in this area, these birds love diamonds and gold! Also, please leave backpacks, bags etc. securely at reception before entering the freedom flight. The birds love to bite buckles, shoulder straps etc. Shoulder Covers are provided for protection if required.
You may have the option of:-
Down at the Veranda Auditorium we have set up a real treat - Devonshire Cream teas/coffee with fresh hot scones jam and cream, and cold drinks. Please order when making your booking.
Please note, we require everyone to book prior to coming in so we can have the correct number of staff on hand.
.
As we receive no financial help from the government, we do our best to fund the care, food and vet costs by boarding birds for folks who are going on holiday.
We also provide grooming, like wing and toenail clipping, and offer advice - if needed.
We offer visitors a Behind the Scenes Tour that gives the opportunity for up-close contact with the friendly and funny birds, we give you treats to feed the birds, and you will have heaps of photo opportunities.
We breed a very select group of species that we believe make the very best long-term pets.
We are also required to re-home surrendered birds, where possible, to suitable long-term homes.
Finally we provide a host situation for Veterinary, Vet Nurse Students and others to gain valuable on the spot Avian Placement Experience.
